NEW YORK — The old world and the new world clashed during a press conference at Yankee Stadium, which for the last decade has hosted what’s become an unsatisfying annual ritual. Harsh questions come like high fastballs when the Yankees don’t win the World Series, and general manager Brian Cashman has been around long enough to know it’s part of the deal. Experience, however, did little to temper his exasperation.

So when Cashman was pressed about passing on a long line of aces for the starting rotation — including a few who are currently pitching in the Fall Classic — the longtime executive pushed back. What followed was an uncharacteristically snippy exchange that underscored a disconnect, one that has emerged between the franchise and its fans.
