5 things to know about Red Sox target Chaim Bloom (The Athletic)

For 45 days following the firing of Dave Dombrowski, there was not an ounce of news or even a rumor as to who might fill the Red Sox front office void.

The natural thought began to shift toward internal options, one of the four executives currently leading the team: Eddie Romero, Zack Scott, Brian O’Halloran and Raquel Ferreira.

But Thursday night, a flicker of speculation turned into a full-on bonfire with The Athletic reporting the Red Sox have interviewed Tampa Bay Rays vice president of baseball operations Chaim Bloom and that Bloom is the favorite for the front office vacancy.

The Philadelphia native and Yale graduate has spent his entire 15-year career with the Rays, but had interviewed for general manager openings as recently as last winter. He was a finalist for both the Mets and Giants GM jobs.
