If that was it for Gerrit Cole as an Astro, he will leave a lasting legacy in Houston (The Athletic)

WASHINGTON — Gerrit Cole wasn’t in a very reflective mood this weekend, at least not publicly. When asked Saturday if he had any thoughts about Game 5 of the World Series potentially being his final start as an Astro, he offered a quick “no.”

But their 7-1 win Sunday was likely his final start with the team and that was the elephant in the ballpark-sized room at Nationals Park as he dominated yet again. Cole might pitch in relief if the series requires a winner-take-all Game 7, but Justin Verlander and Zack Greinke are the only two who will be called upon to start for Houston the rest of the way.

And if Game 5 was indeed it for Cole as an Astro, the mega free-agent-to-be will leave a lasting legacy in Houston. Both of his seasons were All-Star campaigns, and his 2019 is worthy of his first career Cy Young Award. If the Astros finish off the Nationals in Game 6 on Tuesday or Game 7 on Wednesday, his 4-1 postseason with a 1.72 ERA in 36 2/3 innings…
