‘Here we go, baby’: Inside the interview where David Ross landed the Cubs’ manager job (The Athletic)

On Oct. 19, Cubs president Theo Epstein sent a long, detailed message to David Ross’ personal email account, outlining the next step in the team’s manager search.

Epstein gave Ross specific instructions on how to prepare for his second interview, which would begin on Monday morning, Oct. 21, inside the Wrigley Field office building.

Back home in Florida, Ross began processing the information and packing his suits for an extended stay at ESPN’s Connecticut headquarters, where he was supposed to be a featured World Series analyst on “SportsCenter.” On Ross’ travel day from Tallahassee to Chicago, Houston Astros bench coach Joe Espada took a timeout from his own World Series preparations and interviewed with the Cubs on Oct. 20.
