Brewers To Acquire Omar Narvaez (MLB Trade Rumors)


9:20am: The two sides have a deal in place, Greg Johns of MLB.com reports (via Twitter). Milwaukee will send minor league right-hander Adam Hill and its Competitive Balance draft pick to Seattle in exchange for Narvaez. The Brewers’ pick lands in Round B this year and is currently slotted in at No. 71 overall, although draft forfeitures for free agents who rejected qualifying offers could nudge that selection up a few spots.

5:18am: The Brewers are closing in on a deal with the Mariners to acquire catcher Omar Narvaez, according to Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic (via Twitter). The trade return remains unknown.

Narvaez is one of the few backstops in baseball that can match now-former Brewers catcher Yasmani Grandal with the bat. And he’ll cost a whole lot less, bringing three seasons of control that begin with a projected arbitration cost of just $2.9MM.

That’s not to say the Brewers won’t miss the outgoing Grandal. He’s a premium defender, especially in the pitch-framing department….
