Posnanski: Ranking the players on the 2020 Modern Baseball Era ballot (The Athletic)

Until a couple of years ago, these Veterans Committee Hall of Fame announcements were spectacularly uneventful and sometimes kind of awful. From 2002 — just after a conflicted committee voted in Bill Mazeroski and angered the Hall of Fame and many of its purists — until 2017, various veterans committees by different names voted in:

• 6 managers

• 2 owners

• 2 general managers

• 2 commissioners

• 2 umpires

• 3 deceased ballplayers

• 0 living ballplayers*

*This does not include the Special Committee on the Negro Leagues, which voted in 17 people but is remembered almost entirely for not voting in Buck O’Neil.
